Rule: FX Conversion

This rule does currency translation for a certain DataClass. If you would like to perform currency translations for multiple DataClasses at once you may create multiple FX Conversion rules and then Group them using the “Group of Business Rules” as specified above.

Rule execution - detailed explanation

This rule automatically uses the Dimension BusinessRule as below

  1. It erases all data stored in BusinessRule=Conversion for the selected Dimension members.
  2. It reads data stored on member BusinessRule=NONE in BusinessRule and performs currency conversion. The conversion is based on
    1. The rates in the FxRate Dataclass.
    2. Rate used is determined by
      1. Time (Year and Month)
      2. Scenario
      3. Currency (from and to)
      4. Rate Type as set in RateType property in the member of the Account dimension.
    3. It will only perform currency conversion if
      1. The Reporting Property of the Currency dimension is set to 1.
      2. The is no value stored in BusinessRule=NONE (which would mean there already exists a converted value that has been loaded into the system).
  3. It stores the converted data into the BusinessRule=Conversion member of the BusinessRule dimension.

  • Name - Enter the name you would like for this BR.
  • Description - Add a description of that this business rule to make it easy for your colleagues to understand.
  • Type - Displays the type of BR. Can not be edited.
  • Comment - Additional notes or comments can be added here.
  • DataClass - Dropdown to select which DataClass this rule will perform currency conversion in.
    • FxRate should never be selected here since the FxRate table contains the rates themselves. It is implicitly specified and used by this rule.
    • Example: To convert data in Finance - select Finance.
  • Multiply - Normally this rule will do currency conversion using division. In case your currency conversion ends up converting wrong way, check this tickbox to reverse.
  • Dimension filter - Will limit the execution of this BR to only act on data specified.
    • Recommended default setting is: BusinessProcess=Consolidated
    • Allowed syntax is one of the following
      • Basic selection
        • [Dimension name]=[One or more MemberKey(s) of the default hierarchy of the same dimension, separated by comma]
          • The member keys selected can be Parents. If Parents are selected it is equivalent to selecting all leaf members under that parent in the default hierarchy.
          • Dimension name BusinessRule may not be specified here, since it automatically used by the rule (see above).
          • Example: BusinessProcess=Consolidated
        • [Dimension name]:[Hierarchy name]=[One or more MemberKey(s) of the specified hierarchy of the same dimension, separated by comma]
          • The member keys selected can be Parents. If Parents are selected it is equivalent to selecting all leaf members under that parent in the specified hierarchy.
          • Dimension name BusinessRule may not be specified here, since it automatically used by the rule (see above).
          • Example: Account:GAAP=AC_Expense,AC_Tax
        • [Dimension name].[Property name]=[One or more property values of leaf dimension members, separated by comma]
          • This will give all Leaf dimension members with matching property values.
          • Dimension name BusinessRule may not be specified here, since it automatically used by the rule (see above).
          • Example: Employee.MedicalPlan=BQ47,BQ49
      • Not equal. In the above examples you may instead of “=” (equal) use “<>” (not equal).
      • You may specify multiple such selections separated by a “|”. Each dimension may only specified once.
    • Example: BusinessProcess=Consolidated will limit the rule to only act on data that is in any BusinessProcess rolling up to the Consolidated parent.
    • The easiest way to specify this is to click on the button to the right which will give you a dimension dialogue. This can be repeated multiple times.
