Microsoft SQL Server 2019 - Scalar UDF workaround

Due to an issue in SQL Server 2019 you may need to apply the following workaround when installing EFP.

Technical Note: Microsoft has introduced a new feature in SQL Server 2019 called “Scalar UDF Inlining”. This feature has been updated since release of SQL 2019, and with latest patches (September 2nd, 2020) Scalar UDF's still do not work as documented. This bug causes EFP installer to fail. The workaround documented below turns this newly introduced non-functioning feature off for two EFP databases.

  1. Start the installation as usual

    and follow the normal instructions.

  2. If this problem occurs it the installer will stop for 1-20 minutes between steps 5.4 and 5.5

    and then display this error message
    .

  3. Press buttons OK and Exit to leave the installer.

  1. Start SQL Server Managment Studio (SSMS)

  2. Refresh database list if necessary.

  3. Open a Query Window for each of the newly created DBs

    1. “pcETL_…“ and execute the following command

      ALTER DATABASE SCOPED CONFIGURATION SET TSQL_SCALAR_UDF_INLINING = OFF;

    2. “pcINTEGRATOR” and execute the following command

      ALTER DATABASE SCOPED CONFIGURATION SET TSQL_SCALAR_UDF_INLINING = OFF;

  4. Re-start the installation as usual

  5. Select “Maintenance”
    and click “Run”

  6. Click continue through the steps until you reach “Mapped Objects”

  7. Congratulations - you are now back on track!
